Many Slovak wedding customs may sound foreigners familiar, but Slovaks truly do cherish them The ceremony should look beautiful, and if something does n’t look good on camera, they are n’t afraid to retake it. This is what matters most to them. Ethnologist Zuzana Jakubikova told The Slovak Spectator,» It’s like filming: if a scene does n’t turn out well, you just film it again.»

In a ceremony known as pytacky, men used to go to the bride’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage. The bridegroom would have to carry out a number of jobs to demonstrate his devotion to her if her relatives objected, though. This included giving gifts to her parents, dancing with the entire village, and running a labyrinth.

The» savojka» meeting, where the couple’s relatives gather to plait her locks, is a tradition. This is a pretty heartfelt second as she prepares for her new existence. The pair may then eat the same bowl and knife of dish, indicating that they will be combining everything from now on.

Slovak brides were formerly required to see a logs as well. People who needed timber for cooking and heating were taught how to use a knew because this tradition had sensible foundations. It’s a much more metaphorical action now, but it still helps them job together and grow in faith with one another.
